GOOD VIBES CANDLE CO. RESPONSIVE WEBSITE

Good vibes across all devices

BACKGROUND: Good Vibes Candle Co.’s needed a website for users to browse through the store’s catalogue and explore features on desktop and mobile in addition to the previously developed app.

SOLUTION: The Good Vibes now offers a fully responsive website that is accessible and has a consistent user experience across multiple platforms. Shoppers can still utilize the search filters, descriptions and personal scent quiz to find their products. Access to beautiful, large imagery and reviews will allow shoppers to effectively choose their favourite products.

USER PERSONAS

I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research was busy, working professionals who, although enjoy purchasing cozy candles for their homes, don’t always have the time to shop in person.

PAPER WIREFRAMES

Taking the time to draft out iterations of each screen of the website ensured that the elements that made it to the digital wireframes would be well-suited to address user pain points.

DIGITAL MOCKUPS AND PROTOTYPES

The low-fidelity prototype connected the primary user flow of searching for and ordering candles, so that the prototype could be used in a usability study. Helpful insights arose from gathering study findings which allowed for revisions and the creation of a high-fidelity prototype to go on to the next round of user testing.

USABILITY STUDY FINDINGS

  • Users needed an additional way to navigate backwards throughout the site. Breadcrumbs were added to the top of each page to quickly show users their pathway through the site and an easy way to navigate back to previous pages.

  • Users expected menu items to rollover on hover instead of on click. Users navigating the site on desktop now have a rollover state in the main navigation to display the dropdown menus.

  • Users wanted to be returned to the homepage after their purchase is finalized. This was an easy fix to redirect users back to the homepage to let them know their purchase is complete.

IMPACT

The Good Vibes Candle Co. website allows users to feel like they are finding the perfect candle for them or for their loved ones. A personalized shopping experience that they will want to revisit.
